Mrs. Lisa Williams

ESL Specialist

What College(s) Did You Attend?:  I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from University of Texas at Dallas - Interdisciplinary Studies with Concentration in Latin Americans Studies.  I also have a Masters Degree from George Mason University in Curriculum and Instruction with Concentration in Multicultural Multilingual Education.

Education History: This will be my 13th year teaching.  My first job was teaching 3rd and 4th grade at an IB School in Ecuador in South America.  Then, we moved to the Washington, DC area, where I taught 1st grade for 5 years and was the ESL and Intervention Specialist for 2 years.  When I arrived at Huffman Elementary, I was a 4th grade teacher for 1 year and this will be my 4th year as the ESL Coach.

Interests/Hobbies Outside of School: When not in school, I love taking road trips and spending time with family and friends.  My family and I like to scuba dive, snow ski, and play Settlers of Catan.  I also enjoy playing golf, hiking, and camping, especially in national parks.

Why is the IB PYP program important to you?The IB PYP program is important to me because it shapes students into lifelong learners and compassionate global citizens. By fostering international mindedness, it helps children understand and respect diverse perspectives, cultures, languages, and ideas.  The Learner Profile Attributes also equip them with the skills, attitudes, and values they need to thrive in an interconnected world and make a positive impact on the future. My own two children went to the IB school in Ecuador and I can see the positive, long-term impacts it had on their higher education and professional careers.  I’m thrilled to be a Huffman Hawk!
